Pan-Magical Games

PMG logoOnce in every wizarding generation, wizards and witches gather from around the globe to compete for honor and glory in the Pan-Magical Games, a series of noble, magical competitions. All in good fun, Terminus is pleased to host this generation’s Pan-Magical Games as part of the conference. After the Arrival Dinner, the Games will officially open with the first matches of Thoth’s Tournament of Knowledge, and the weekend will include the famed Trade Winds Tournament, additional matches for Thoth’s Tournament of Knowledge, writing and art challenges, an art gallery, puzzles of logical deduction and more. The Games encompass a variety of competitions to appeal to a variety of competitors, and all of the Games are included with a registration except the Trade Winds Tournament and Thoth’s Tournament of Knowledge. Those tournaments provide players with a team jersey, and therefore, players must pay a registration fee to participate; if players choose to register for both tournaments, however, they will receive a $5.00 discount.

Throughout the weekend, attendees are invited to participate in as many or as few of the events as they would like. Writers, artists, puzzlers, athletes, and more are welcome, and we hope that every attendee will try at least one of the games. As with all Pan-Magical Games, more is always merrier.

Quidditch
The Trade Winds Tournament will bring together enthusiasts from around the world to play that most revered wizarding sport of all: Quidditch. This test of determination, enthusiasm, and teamwork challenges players to score the most points – and capture the Golden Snitch – on their way to winning the Continents Cup. Players will receive custom jerseys with their name and number, and may request teammates at the time of registration. Pre-registration for The Trade Winds Tournament is required. For more information on the Trade Winds Tournament, as well as the accompanying House play, please see our Quidditch section here.

Trivia
Thoth’s Tournament of Knowledge will be a fast-paced test of a team’s knowledge of the Harry Potter phenomenon – the faces and places, the facts and figures related to the way the boy wizard affected the world. For example, do you know the date the first book was published? Who played Neville Longbottom in the movies? Which literacy charity benefited from J. K. Rowling’s auction of a notecard of clues? Players will receive t-shirts signifying their teams, and may request up to five teammates at the time of registration. Pre-registration for the Thoth’s Tournament of Knowledge is required. For more information on the tournament, please see our page here. Tickets for this event are sold out.

Writing, Art and More
Throughout the conference, the Pan-Magical Games will include a series of writing and art challenges, brainteasers, games and logic puzzles. Attendees can participate in one or all of the challenges, alone or in teams. The winner or winners of each challenge will earn points toward Aeolian University’s Tempest Cup. Truly dedicated puzzlers can also participate in the Odyssey, the Wizards’ Lost and Found competition, and the Magical Mystery.

Art Gallery
The Terminus Art Gallery invites those with magical pens, pencils, and paints, with sorcerers’ sewing machines, or even with yarn of the Yeti, to show off their fan, fantasy, and whimsical creations as part of our Art Gallery. Attendance at the conference is not required, though we hope that artists with work on display will attend! Art on display will be automatically considered for inclusion in the Pan-Magical Games, and an award will be given for the best in show. Gallery submissions are now closed, but if you’d like more information, please visit the Exploratory Programming section here.

Wizards’ Lost and Found
Attendees arriving early on the first day of the conference are invited to take part in the Wizards’ Lost and Found competition, which will send participants out into the streets to collect Muggle artifacts from the community. (One hint: The "Point Me!" spell will help with navigation – and Lake Michigan is to the east!)

Dueling
The Pan-Magical Games are never complete without a vigorous round of Dueling, and this generation will be no different. All attendees, regardless of skill or experience, are welcome to join this competition, which will test memories for names and faces – or skills at locating them. Track your targets one by one through the wind and the fog, and any witches and wizards left standing at the end of the weekend will receive honor and glory – and House Points toward the Tempest Cup. To participate in Dueling, attendees must add this program, at no charge, to their registrations before our online system closes.

The Odyssey
As Odysseus explored the world, so must you—but instead of wandering for ten years, you need only devote a few days to tackling The Odyssey. In this weekend-long, at-your-own-pace quest, you will be challenged to collect treasures and memories from all that the conference has to offer. No Trojan Horse is required.

Magical Mystery
How is your sleuthing? Have you honed your powers of observation? Do you have a supply of Veritaserum? Can you wrangle the truth out of witnesses who may not even understand what they saw? A wizard has been killed, a handful of witnesses are at your disposal, and the clock is running. Can you help Chicago’s Finest Aurors?

As always, if you have questions, please e-mail us at help@terminus2008.org.
