Trade Winds Tournament
A featured element of the Pan-Magical Games is always a high-flying Quidditch competition, and this year will be no different. Terminus and the Seven Seas League (SSL) are proud to announce that the Trade Winds Tournament will be part of the Games’ schedule. Terminus is the first time in over a century that the SSL has elected to hold the Trade Winds, as the tournament is affectionately known, north of the Thirtieth Parallel, and those of the northern climes couldn’t be more ready. Tournament officials expect considerable turnout and welcome all interested players; after all, the Trade Winds were not named for the blustery tirades of its fans, but for the famous winds that bring in the best players from around the world, and competition should be fierce indeed.
The Trade Winds Tournament will be played on Saturday, August 9, 2008, in the famed Grant Park of downtown Chicago. The pitches will be located immediately across the street from the Hilton Chicago Hotel, mere steps from the shores of Lake Michigan. We expect that the Trade Winds will feature early tournament rounds in the morning, a significant break for lunch and perhaps some programming, and elimination rounds in late afternoon. The Trade Winds will finish with the championship match at 6:00 p.m., and we invite everyone to join us to cheer on the final teams. House play for those attendees not taking part in the tournament will take place in the afternoon.
Playing in the Trade Winds Tournament requires a $30 tournament fee for Terminus attendees ($40 for non-attendees) to cover the expense of your team jersey. If you would like to play, please purchase a ticket in our registration system. No experience is necessary and players of all skill levels are welcome. Each team will play at least three games, and each player will receive a custom jersey with his or her team mascot, name and number. Players may express their name, number, position and teammate preferences at the time of registration for the Trade Winds. The SSL will let you know as the tournament approaches if they cannot meet all your preferences. Please note that, as with all administrative organizations, the SSL will be more likely to meet your preferences if you register early. Players will also receive sports drinks, water, and snacks during the tournament, as fainting from dehydration in front of Buster Sampson from QuidditchCenter would be embarrassing at best.
At the moment, several teams have confirmed their participation in this most classic of tournaments, and several more are completing their paperwork. We expect to have a full complement of teams on the website by the end of May, 2008.
Aeolian University House Cup
As is traditional, the Trade Winds Tournament, in a show of support for amateur sport, will include rounds of play for a wizarding university’s House teams. In 2008, the Aeolian University House teams have been invited to participate, and we can expect to see daredevil teams from the four international Houses take the pitch as part of the Pan-Magical Games. Of course, as is also traditional, Trade Winds players, being professionals, may not participate in the amateur House competition.
Those attendees wishing to play on their House teams as part of the Pan-Magical Games should be prepared to try out, though we’ll only hold tryouts if we have too many interested players to include on a team. Interested attendees should consult their program books upon check-in at Terminus for information about House play. House play is not open to non-attendees.
Please direct all questions regarding amateur Quidditch to the Seven Seas League at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All players must sign a liability waiver – or if they are under 18 on August 7, 2008, have their parent or legal guardian sign a liability waiver for them – before taking the pitch. Please note that chaperones may not sign liability waivers, so any minors attending without their parents must have the waiver signed before leaving for Terminus. Neither Terminus nor Narrate Conferences, Inc. accepts any liability for injuries or health issues sustained during Quidditch play.
