Gallery Prospectus

Terminus is pleased to present a gallery of magical, fantasy, and fan art. Professional and amateur artists alike are invited to submit up to five pieces per person or per collaborative group for consideration by the gallery committee, which will select a showing that represents as many artists, styles, and topics as possible. The prospectus below, as well as the Elements page for exploratory programming, provides information regarding making a proposal to the art gallery. Art must have been submitted by March 1, 2008, and artists should have received information about the status of acceptance by March 30, 2008.

Accepted artists are encouraged to register and attend Terminus, though attendance at the conference is not required for consideration or acceptance by the committee. The gallery will be open select hours from August 7-11, 2008. Information regarding shipping, load-in, and load-out times will be made available to accepted artists in the summer of 2008.

If you have questions about the Terminus art gallery, please write to gallery@terminus2008.org.

PROSPECTUS
A CALL FOR ENTRIES

Terminus Gallery
Art Gallery: August 7-11, 2008
Chicago, IL

ENTRY INFORMATION
All entrants who wish to submit work for consideration by the Terminus Gallery Committee must be at least 14 years of age by August 7, 2008. Entrants may be from anywhere in the world, and are not required to attend Terminus to have their art included in the Gallery. Accepted artists are, however, encouraged to register for and attend the conference.

Entries of up to 5 separate pieces of 2- and 3-D fantasy, whimsy, magical, and other fan art will be accepted through the online submission system at http://www.terminus2008.org/submissions/exploratory/ only. Each individual artist may also submit sets of up to 5 pieces of art that have been created in collaboration with another individual, with no limit on the number of different collaborators and resulting collaborative proposals submitted.

PREPARATION FOR SUBMISSION
Entries of up to 5 separate pieces of fantasy, whimsy, magical, and fanart will be accepted through the online submission system at http://www.terminus2008.org/submissions/exploratory/ only. The Terminus Gallery Committee may accept 2- and 3-dimensional artwork. Accepted file formats for artwork and photographs of non-digital pieces are .jpeg/.jpg, .png, and .gif.

At the time of submission, artists should be prepared to give the title of each piece, the medium, and approximate dimensions when prepared for hanging. A short commentary on the works, including special hanging needs, may be submitted as well. While there will be no sales of artwork through the Terminus Gallery, artists may choose to donate their piece(s) to the conference auction.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE
All notices will be sent out by e-mail no later than March 30, 2008.

DELIVERY OF WORK
Artists are responsible for bringing their pieces to the fourth floor of the Hilton Chicago Hotel between 8 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on August 7, 2008, or for shipping the pieces to the conference. Directions for shipping to the gallery will be provided in the summer of 2008. Delivery and return are at the artist's expense. Terminus is not responsible for pieces that arrive without suitable return shipping materials and postage, or for pieces not picked up by the end of the conference.

Two-dimensional art must be, at minimum, complete with a mat, protective backing, and hardware or wiring strong enough to support its weight. Three-dimensional wall art must be wired and ready to hang with hardware strong enough to support its weight. All other three-dimensional art should be prepared as appropriate. Artists are encouraged to ensure that the dimensions of the frame are no larger than 22 inches wide for any art that has not yet been created in a physical medium so that it can be hung on existing display panels.

Terminus, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to refrain from displaying accepted entries that are not delivered in a ready-to-hang state, that differ significantly from the description given to the Committee, or that would be damaged by the Gallery volunteers when modified for hanging.

LIABILITY
All works of art are entered at the artist's risk. Terminus and its representatives will not be responsible for damage, loss or theft of work during the shipping, transporting and exhibition process, though all reasonable care will be taken in handling the works of art to be displayed in the Gallery. Artists are responsible for insuring their works of art for the entire period of shipping, exhibition and return shipping.

OTHER TERMS AND LEGAL NOTICES
By submitting your piece(s) for consideration, you warrant that your work is either original to you or that you have rights to use the portions that are not original. Submissions may not incorporate or replicate any official Harry Potter art, unless the artist can show permission from the appropriate source or if the use is deemed a parody by Terminus. Photomanipulations of images that are not original to the artist will not be considered.

Artists will retain the copyrights in their works, but must grant Terminus a license to display accepted works in the Gallery.

Works must not contain material that would be deemed NC-17 under the MPAA guidelines governing films in the United States. If you have questions or concerns regarding the content restrictions, please e-mail Amy Tenbrink, corporate counsel for Terminus, at legal@terminus2008.org.

Pieces submitted to the Terminus Gallery Committee will automatically be considered for Best in Show as part of the conference’s Pan-Magical Games, which focuses on creative endeavors, such as writing and art, as well as on logic puzzles and physical challenges.
